  1. The concept isn’t all that new. Many years ago there used to be a show called INVENTION on one of the cable channels. It was hosted by Lucky Severnson (sp?) One of the regular features of the show was a clip from the “Popular Science” newsreels from the 1940s. They had various things that they showed, such as a future kitchen with a round stove in the middle of the room, a bedroom with a bed that slid you out on a sleeping porch when the weather was too warm, etc. One of the things they showed was “a room in a box.” There WAS no bed frame in the box, though. This was for servicepeople (they showed two servicewomen using it) and went on the assumption you had a room with two iron cots, but nothing else. The crate was the size of a dresser. The sides came off and made a desk, and there was actually a dresser inside. Inside the drawers of the dresser there were parts for a lamp (with a collapsible shade like those collapsible drinking cups), legs for the desk, legs and canvas slings to make a chair, slipcovers for the headboards of the bed and pillows, and also a little side table, I think. We sat watching the whole thing with our mouths open. Very cool.
