Cheyenne Mountain Zoo says goodbye to Malaika. We saw her at our visit to the zoo several weeks ago, and I read about how the zoo specifically developed its facilities to take care of elderly female African elephants.

I saw this Red River Hog at Cheyenne Mountain Zoon. Here is what one looks like as a baby.
Giraffe
This fellow was in a paddock by himself (intact male) looking wistful at the other giraffes being fed by the visitors. So I bought him a bunch of lettuce and fed him the whole thing. (Cheyenne Mountain Zoo sells food for the animals as part of their fundraising. Feeding giraffes by hand is very cool. Their tongues are black.) (edited)

Unfortunately, Imcomptech, a site with a variety of calendar and graph paper generators, seems to be suffering from some problems right now, but they are still some pre-generated pdfs available. I am particularly fond of the dot grid paper because it is hard to find at stores.
