I try to remember to call them Rudbeckia, but since I grew up in Maryland, I think I will always think of them as Black Eyed Susans (the state flower of Maryland.)

I’ve added zinnias to the list of things that can survive even my attempts at gardening.  The zinnias have survived being planted in a bed that was water-logged so much this summer that I was surprised anything could survive.  They also survived several hail storms and a few pounding rains.

We were surprised by how much was still blooming at the Denver Botanic Garden in September. I hope I can remember that I want to plant some celosia next spring.
