Jack made this recipe for Slow Cooker Beef Stew IV that he found at Allrecipes.  I don’t usually care for stew made in a slow cooker, but this turned out very well, even without the wine.

I should mention that I made a couple of modifications to the recipe besides not using the red wine. I used a can of beef broth instead of the two cups of water and I threw in a dash of Worcestershire Sauce and a dash of soy sauce after all the ingredients were added in. And a bay leave instead of parsley. And I used celery too.

Actually, I suppose it is fair to say that I crossed Slow Cooker Beef Stew I with IV to end up with a very tasty stew. ( And I forgot the garlic. nuts. Probably overkill with the onion soup mix, anyway.) I did like the step in IV where you coat all the stew meat in the flour before browning it. I don’t know why Recipe I doesn’t tell you to brown the meat before putting it in the crock pot.
