Before I began mine, I had a conversation with DK Stoneman, in which she tried to point out the differences between an artist’s journal as a working tool, and the artist’s book as a finished process. It wasn’t until I had started using mine fitfully for quite a while, that I began to get an idea of what she meant.

One of the things that helped me is glimpses of DK’s journal. I thought it might be helpful for people who are intrigued by the concept of an artist’s journal, but don’t know quite where to start, to see some examples of other people. Here are some pages from my journal, as well as some pages volunteered by members of the E-Swap group.

Elaine Normandy

DK Stoneman

Betty Goetz

Sue Shotwell

Although one of the rubber stamping magazines has had some wonderful examples from artist’s journals recently, I decided, after looking at them, that I would never have started using an art journal if I thought I had to make something that looked so finished.
