We saw lots of bison when we were in Yellowstone Park. They act as though they own the place. This one was strolling across the front grounds of the Lake Hotel. Behind is Yellowstone Lake. Overhead is the plume from the Arnica Fire, which added some drama to our visit. When I took this photo the fire was about five miles from the Lake Hotel, where we were staying in a cabin. The hotel personnel were working at clearing underbrush around the hotel, and setting up the outdoor sprinkler systems.
I was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee and just learned that there is also a Chattanooga, Colorado. It is now a ghost town, but had 300 people at its peak.

I’ve added zinnias to the list of things that can survive even my attempts at gardening. The zinnias have survived being planted in a bed that was water-logged so much this summer that I was surprised anything could survive. They also survived several hail storms and a few pounding rains.
We were surprised by how much was still blooming at the Denver Botanic Garden in September. I hope I can remember that I want to plant some celosia next spring.
